Modest Rave Outfits For Women Over 40

If you are considering going to a festival/EDM show/rave, I’ve got you. Keep reading as I share ideas on modest rave outfits, especially if you’re over 40.

Now, just because you’re over 40, this doesn’t mean you need to wear something modest. I chose to say modest for a couple of reasons. First (and honestly), it came up as a good SEO keyword search. Second, being that I attended my first EDM show/rave at the age of 46 years old, I wasn’t ready to go all out yet and wanted to keep it modest, as I didn’t know what to expect.

If you, too, are like me, new to this whole scene, keep reading…

I never thought the word rave would be a part of my title, but here we are. Growing up, raves were a huge thing. Unfortunately for me, I never got to attend a rave back in the ’90s or early 2000s. Instead, I stayed behind and watched my kids since I had them young, while I also got the chance to watch my girlfriends get ready for a rave.

Recently, I’ve missed dancing. I did, however, get to go clubbing, and I haven’t gone in ages. But I miss just dancing like no one’s watching. Hence, I decided to get into raves or EDM shows. My thought process was to join a community where I can both have fun and be active through dancing.

I recently was invited to an EDM show/rave (not sure if it’s considered a show or rave, my apologies) called Above & Beyond. It was amazing. But before the show, I was trying to figure out what to wear. And that’s when it clicked. As I mentioned before, I remember watching my girlfriends get ready for a rave back in the 90s and early 2000s, and I decided to take some cues from them. Since they always dressed so fun and wore modest rave outfits, in my opinion. Back then, that would probably have been considered athleisure.

Back then, my girlfriends used to wear a lot of sports clothes, like windbreaker pants, tanks, and Nike Airmax shoes. This outfit was a perfect fit for me now, since it was sporty and comfortable. Both of which make me feel confident.

I already had some dark blue, relaxed-fit windbreaker pants. Now, I just needed to find a top and shoes to go with it, which wasn’t hard at all because I had a bunch of sneakers to choose from. My top, though, I knew I wouldn’t feel comfortable wearing a tank top. Since the event would be outdoors, I had to consider the weather. Also, I didn’t want to bring a jacket since I tend to get hot when I’m active.

I was able to find a long-sleeve square-neck black top from Free People in my dresser that fits my pants perfectly. I folded it under a little to crop it so it hit right at my belly (that was the most flattering length for me). The sleeves had grommets on them, which gave them a little pizazz. I would have loved to wear sparkles, but I also didn’t want to buy anything new.

I also ended up choosing my black Sorel sneakers, which served me so well and are so comfortable. Below is a snapshot of my outfit. I’m sad I didn’t get a picture of myself standing up, as it was such a cute and comfortable outfit!

Thankfully, I had my Ganni Festival bag, which was the perfect size to bring in. I guess that’s why they call it a festival bag. It was in leopard print, giving my solid, almost monochrome outfit a little extra style.

Below, not only do I share a small snapshot of my outfit, but I also share some flatlays to inspire you on modest rave outfits and some suggestions from my family as well.

My daughter recently purchased these pants from Amazon, and it was the same style my girlfriends used to wear to raves. She wore them to a concert recently with silver sneakers and looked so good! After, I asked her how her pants held up, if they were comfortable, and if she would suggest them. She confirmed YES and that she loved them. Side note- she also inspired me to get this set of silver huggies from Amazon as well, which are so cute and timeless.

Check out some of my picks below in the widget I created.

As always, thanks for reading.

Love, Sutivi.
