4 of The Best Fall Wardrobe Essentials You Need

Need inspiration or ideas on key fall wardrobe essentials? Here, I list some of my timeless coveted pieces for this upcoming fall season to keep you warm, comfortable, and looking effortless.

This season, I’ve been seeing lots of brown, which obviously fits well into the fall season. Brown is the new black, and I couldn’t agree more. I’ve always loved brown and feel like it was such an underrated color.

I’m loving dark brown for shoes at the moment, from loafers to boots, and brown trimming on barn jackets and more. I even love a brown monochromatic look. Below are some top fall pieces I’m currently loving or needing as part of my fall wardrobe essentials.

This post is all about fall wardrobe essentials.

What Kind Of Shoes To Look Out For This Fall?

Once loathed, now loved, loafers are such a classic shoe. A great choice for fall wardrobe essentials. Not only are they a little more elevated and an alternative to your basic flats, but they can be super comfortable for everyday wear as well.

They look great with a nice pair of socks, jeans, and dresses (this look is a bit more young). My daughter wore her loafers with ankle socks and a slip dress. It was so cute! That goes to show the versatility of a great pair of loafers.

I purchased my brown leather loafers two years ago during a Macy’s sale. Shopping tip: Macy’s always has sales on shoes (so you can wait to get the best deals). My daughter went big and got a pair of black Prada loafers, which she admits to taking a long time to break in.

Whatever your budget, you can always find a nice pair of loafers within your price range. I say, if you can go for brown. Brown loafers to me are a more unexpected twist than black. Plus, it’s the color of the season. Brown is really so effortless to pair with other clothing items and colors as well.

Boots- Currently, my girlfriend purchased some cognac colored suede booties. Although I like those and own a pair myself, their not ones I reach for a lot anymore, to be quite honest.

The boots I’m gravitating towards are a pair of dark brown leather boots. Suede can be a little difficult for me since it doesn’t do well in the rain.

Leather, in my opinion, is a bit more durable when wet. Although we don’t want to keep it from being drenched in water. This season, some classic styles to check out are Chelsea boots or knee-high leather chunky heeled boots.

Trending Jackets For This Fall Season

I caved in a purchased the trending barn jacket. I got my Lauren Ralph Lauren barn jacket at a decent price at Nordstrom Rack (unfortunately, I can’t find it online, and I purchased mine in-store).

What I love about this jacket is that it’s pretty durable, so when I’m spending time in my garden, I don’t have to be so precious with it. I can move around the garden effortlessly.

I also plan on bringing it camping since I feel like this jacket is super durable. Bonus: it’s rainproof, warm, and has lots of pockets. It also has a nice, clean cut for a more tailored look.

However, it doesn’t look stuffy or too rigid. It still offers a very relaxed style. I plan on wearing it with my brown loafers, which also happen to be by Ralph Lauren, which I got on sale at Macys.com.

Unfortunately, they’re no longer available on Macys.com. Be sure to check out my widget below. I provide similar loafers that resemble the ones I purchased.

Another jacket that’s part of my fall wardrobe essentials is one from Free People. This one I also splurged on. It’s supposed to have warmth like a down jacket and is packable, which sold me.

I found a dupe from Nordstrom Rack, which I’ve linked here for you. I will say, I bought it and returned it because it was quite too thin for my liking.

The one from Free People is expensive, but the warmth is superior, and it comes in a variety of great colors to choose from. I purchased mine in the color Fossil, which is a more taupey brown.

I’ve also linked the Free People Pippa jacket here for you to check out if you’re interested. If you get hot easily, perhaps the one from Nordstrom Rack may be more suitable for you.

However, if you get cold easily, maybe investing in a more expensive one with a good warmth rating should be something to consider. I decided to invest in the Pippa jacket because it’s thin enough to pack for when I travel to cold places.

Another jacket on my radar, which I don’t own yet, is an oversized bomber jacket in brown. The one I’ve been eyeing is this one from Quince (click here to check it out).

A few years ago, I bought another leather jacket in black from Quince and love it. It’s of great quality and unique in style.

Since I spent so much on the other jackets above, this will just have to wait. But it is a piece I’ve been coveting over this season. I know this style, too, will take me through many different seasons just like my other leather jacket from Quince.

It’s such a great cut that offers a bit more fun and unexpected flavor than your traditional moto leather jacket. It also looks roomy enough to fit a nice thick sweater underneath and would pair well with a cozy scarf.

The Best Fit For Fall Jeans

Jeans used to be a huge part of my wardrobe, no matter the season. However, for the last several years (since COVID, really), jeans haven’t been something I reach for.

This season, that’s changing, and I’m on a mission to buy a great pair of jeans. This is something you should definitely have as part of your fall wardrobe essentials.

The fit to look for is a mid-rise straight leg or relaxed fit, dark wash that hits right at the ankle or a little below. It will pair well with loafers and boots. It’s also a classic cut that won’t go out of style. Not only is it classic, but a straight-leg or relaxed fit is also functional and timeless.

I recommend investing in a nice pair of jeans. One pair of good-fitting jeans should serve you well as part of your wardrobe. I’m currently saving up to invest in a pair.

Also, I suggest trying them on in person instead of purchasing them online. This way, you can determine if the fit works for you or not. Purchasing online can be more impulsive. If an online purchase doesn’t work out, needing to return them via mail may influence your decision to just keep them.

We want the fit to be the only influential factor, not because it was a convenient purchase. And the best way to determine the fit is by trying multiple pairs on.

Levi’s has some really good jeans that can be affordable to some. They, too, like Macy’s, generally have sales online at Levi.com. Be aware of taxes, though. If you do decide to purchase online, taxes may be a bit more than average.

One night, I was doomscrolling for jeans and came across a pair I liked on the Levi’s site. I pretended to make a purchase (like I often do to see the total price), and noticed the tax was 40%! The next day, taxes went back down to my local state’s tax rate of around 10%. Again, buyers beware. I digress.

I like Levi’s jeans because it is a stiffer material versus other brands that offer a bit more stretch. For me, I like a little stiffness in my jeans to hold me in a bit better.

I haven’t found a brand that offers a happy medium. If you have, please be sure to comment below some of your recommendations. I prefer a dark wash since to me they look a bit more classic and dressier.

I like light-washes too, but they give me a more casual vibe. Lighter colors give me Spring or Summer. These are just personal preferences. Because when it comes to fashion, really, you should wear what makes you feel most confident.

Plus, everyone has different tones and colors that may be more flattering for them. I mean, I like wearing black in the summer too because it makes me feel confident.

Oh, and another brand I like is Abercrombie jeans because again, the jeans are a bit stiffer. They also have a curve fit that fits great for people who have a curvier bottom, like me.

Timeless Tops For Fall

Two tops you need for the fall season are a white button-up long sleeve and a cashmere sweater. I love a good old white button-up shirt and buttery soft cashmere sweater. Needless to say, they’re both so classic.

A nice white button-up can actually be worn year-round. I have a total of five white button-ups in different fabrics. Linen for summer, a blend of linen for Spring, and a blend of cotton for Fall and Winter. You just can’t go wrong with a nice-fitting white button-up.

You can even wear them as a cover-up, an extra layer of outerwear. I like to throw on a linen button-up over my workout clothes when I go for a hike, too. It helps shade my arms from the sun. Yet, it’s light enough to breathe in the summer heat.

Here, I’ve linked the Uniqlo one I’ve had for years. I love the price point and the cut. It’s such a clean and classic cut, and it pairs well with jeans if you want a casual vibe. This would be a great addition to your fall wardrobe essentials that will also carry you through other seasons.

Another great fall wardrobe essential would be cashmere sweaters. I love a great cashmere sweater. In fact, a lot of cashmere sweaters have been thrifted. If you want to learn more about how to buy on reseller platforms like Poshmark, I’ve got you! Click here to learn more.

I recently purchased two Nordstrom brand cashmere sweaters (click here) from Nordstrom Rack at a really great price of less than $60 each. However, I will say they are on the thinner side, but I do like the cut and fit.

I like my sweaters to fit oversized. I bought them one size larger than my regular size medium. Another purchase I made from Quince was some cashmere sweaters. I find them to be of better quality and at a great price point. I’ve purchased several cashmere sweaters from Quince for gifts as well.

Short-sleeve cashmere sweaters are my newest obsession. Quince also has some really cute ones, too. Can you tell I really like Quince?

I’ve purchased a few items from them that I can vouch are of good quality, like my leather jacket, cashmere sweaters, and a dress. I have bought some tanks and tees that I had to return because I didn’t like the fit or quality of them. So no, although I like Quince, not everything is worth it from them.

You just gotta find pieces that work for you. Going back to short-sleeve cashmere sweaters…these can also be purchased online, second-hand. I got a short-sleeve cashmere sweater from Poshmark that’s my favorite to date.

Below, I’ve created a widget with a roundup of my favorite fall wardrobe essentials. Be sure to check it out and tell me what you think.

Do you already have some of these fall wardrobe essentials? If so, which ones? If not, what are some of your fall wardrobe essentials?
