I thought I’d share some of my current favorites since we’re three months into the new year. Being over 40, I’ve been able to curate a list of items that work for me. These items have continued to prove their worth throughout the years. Along with my tried-and-true favorites, I’m sharing a few new ones below.
Current Favorites
I talk about this skincare product a lot. I’ve even written about it in several blogs. It’s The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil. Click here if you want to learn more about a great nighttime skin care routine.
I’ve been using this product for so many years and have gone through many, many bottles. When I’m too tired to do a full-on skincare routine, I will reach for this and only this product as my one-stop shop. I cannot rave enough about The Ordinary’s rose hip oil.
It does a great job of hydrating your skin. It doesn’t clog my acne-prone skin, and it helps brighten my face. My skin drinks this stuff up! It’s supposed to help improve skin elasticity, and I feel like it does. And it has an amazing price of less than $11! I’ve seen other rose hip oils I’ve wanted to try, but I couldn’t justify the price tag. I also go through so many bottles so quickly because I apply it both morning and night.
Another all-time favorite of mine that I’ve been using for years now is the Sweed Eyelash Growth Serum. I had pretty sparse, short, straight lashes. I’ve used Grande Lash before, but didn’t like the purple line that developed right above my lash line. When I found Sweed, I loved how it was prostaglandin-free. Prostaglandin can cause side effects such as eyelid skin darkening, sunken eyes, and irritation, among others. Instead, Sweed contains ingredients such as pumpkin seed oil, hyaluronic acid, vitamin B5, keratin, peptides, and biotin.
As I mentioned, I’ve been using this lash serum for several years now. Over four years, to be exact. And I love the lash growth it gives me. It provides a nice, subtle, natural eyeliner to my lash line because of how full my lashes got.
It is on the pricey side at $80 for 5ml. Actually, I just checked, and it increased by $10! Now, it’s $90 for 5ml. There is a 3ml option for $65 if you don’t want to commit to spending $90. I still think it’s worth it, though. I can go without mascara now. It’s also sold at Nordstroms now. Before, I would order directly from their site, but the delivery time could take up to a couple of weeks. Now that I can purchase it from Nordstrom, it’s a lot faster to receive. I will add that sometimes the 5ml sells out on both sites from time to time.
However, although it makes my lashes long, there is a limit to the length of my lashes. Meaning, no matter how consistent and long I’ve been using Sweed’s lash serum, my lashes aren’t getting any longer with how long and consistent I’ve been using the product. Now, I’m really just using Sweed more for maintenance to maintain my lash length.
I apply Sweed’s lash serum at night during my skincare routine (click here to read about my nighttime skincare routine). I apply this as the very last step in my nighttime skincare routine (over eye cream and other products).
Along with applying Sweed’s lash serum, I also apply The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Lash and Brow Serum to my brows. I haven’t tried The Ordinary’s serum on my lashes yet, since I feel like Sweed already does such a great job at my lashes. But for my brows, I use it and love it! I went through two other brands before and never really liked them. They were Vegamour and GrandeBrow. I saw growth in my brows, but not enough to justify the high price tag. When I switched over to The Ordinary, it gave me the same results at a much lower price. Currently, less than $15! I won’t be changing my brow serum anytime soon since I’m super satisfied with it.
My daughter recently introduced the Nooni Korean Lip Oil to me. It quickly became another favorite of mine. I used to be such a fan of Benefit’s PosieTint’s color. Unfortunately, they discontinued it. I’ve been on a hunt for a similar color ever since. I will admit the Benefit lip tints weren’t the most hydrating, but the color was the best for my hyperpigmented lips. Because the cool pink brought about a warmth to my hyperpigmented lips that it needed.
When my daughter gifted me with two Nooni lip oils, I fell in love! The colors were beautiful! They were all hydrating and left a subtle tint to my lips in a very pretty, subtle pink color. I have the colors appleberry and applepeony. I’ve been raving about this lip product any chance I get. All the colors are beautiful as well!
I’ve only had it for about a month and already know this will be a long-time favorite of mine. It provides a great color payoff and is also hydrating to my lips. I no longer feel like I have to search for that perfect long-lasting color anymore. I checked the price, and it’s not too bad either at $15. It’s definitely more affordable than Benefit’s lip tints.
Ladies! Especially ladies over 40! Our skin needs a little more help than when we were younger. It is what it is. Thankfully, we’re at a time in our lives where products are abundant. If you have a skin problem, there probably is a solution.
For me, my skin was getting bumpy (strawberry skin or, in my case, strawberry arms), and scars weren’t fading as fast on my body like they once used to. But fear not! I found something that was affordable and helped smooth out my skin and lighten any blemishes on my body. It’s the Versed Press Restart Retinol Body Lotion. I love love love this lotion!
I will admit, it’s not the best at providing moisture. Actually, it doesn’t provide any hydration, but it does wonders for blemished or bumpy skin. I love to slather this on after a shower and can definitely notice my hyperpigmentation lighten over time.
This other current favorite was gifted to me for my birthday. I didn’t realize how much I needed it until I started using it, but it’s the Crown Affairs Hair Towel. Ever since I was gifted this, I haven’t stopped using it. As I’ve gotten older, I’m losing a lot more hair. I used to wrap my hair up in a regular towel. Before getting the hair towel, I’ve noticed that a regular hair towel gets really heavy and pulls my hair down. As a result, with any slight movement, it can also pull my hair out or break it.
Since using the hair towel, it feels a lot lighter and doesn’t pull my hair down or out. Instead, it gently secures my hair out of my face while I apply skincare products and dries my hair better simultaneously. I feel a lot more confident wrapping my hair in a hair towel now because I don’t have to worry about it losing more hair.
Another current favorite my youngest daughter introduced to me is the Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25. My daughter knows I’ve been on a hunt for a moisturizing SPF lip product. When she introduced this to me, she knew I wanted something hydrating, not sticky, and protective.
This product came through! It provides nice hydration while protecting my lips from the sun at the same time. It doesn’t get tacky or clumpy after several uses. I love using this over my lip stains when I’m out and about. I’ve already gone through multiple tubes. They’re also great gifts or stocking stuffers, too.
Another gift I received on my birthday was the Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat Blur Face Primer. When I run out, I would definitely repurchase this for myself. There’s something in it that does a great job at blurring out my pores and making my skin look seamless. When I use this and pair it with my CHANEL LES BEIGES Water-Fresh Tint, I get so many compliments on my skin.

The next two current favorites will be with dental products. During the holidays last year, I bought these as stocking stuffers for my daughters. I was staying at a girlfriend’s house in New York last year, and this was what she had for me to use while there. It’s the Euthymol Whitening Toothpaste. I love this toothpaste!
It makes my mouth and teeth feel so clean. Plus, it really does a great job at whitening. It is a little spicy, but a little goes a long way. I promise, it will make your mouth feel super fresh! Combined with another current favorite of mine, the Plackers Micro Line Dental Flossers, your mouth will definitely feel at its cleanest. I love these flossers because it makes flossing so easy! Unlike other flosser brands, these are super strong, and the string will not break.
As I mentioned, they are super easy to use and make flossing really convenient. I put them in a tiny plastic pouch and slip it into my purse. I don’t know about you, but as I’ve gotten older, I notice food gets stuck between my teeth more often.
So there you have it! Some of my current favorites. Do you have any current favorites you would like to recommend? If so, be sure to leave a comment below. I’d love to hear about it!
