My friends and I love to go out for dinner occasionally. It’s nice to catch up with one another and enjoy a delicious meal, which we usually end up sharing.
One of the fun parts of going out for dinner for me can also be getting ready. I try to make an effort and enjoy my time when getting ready. I’ll turn on music, light a candle, and just have fun with my makeup or outfit. However, trying to figure out what to wear can get stressful, even if it’s just a casual restaurant.
I always want to feel comfortable, but also look put together. Sometimes when we go to a non-fancy restaurant, I’ll have a harder time finding something to wear just because I forget how to balance feeling comfortable and looking good.
I don’t want to wear sweats to a restaurant, even if the place permits it. I haven’t worn heels in forever. And I’m not going to start again for a casual restaurant.

This post is all about casual dinner outfits for ladies.
I don’t know about you, but I feel most comfortable in pants rather than jeans, more specifically loose-fitting pants. I still like jeans, but I notice I don’t reach for them as much as I used to. Jeans were my everyday staple. Now, I feel constricted in them. However, I still included them in some outfits below.
I recently bought a pair of Levi’s (the ones I listed on here). I think a big part of why I don’t reach for jeans as much anymore is that I don’t have any that fit properly anymore.
As I’ve gotten older, a lot of my weight has shifted to my thighs and butt. My hips have very slightly changed. It’s not as noticeable as my thighs and butt. I digress…
I love Levi’s and have always been a fan of them since I was young. Levi’s and I have gone through all the jean trends together. From bootleg to a skinny fit, now it’s either straight or wide-leg.
I love Levi’s because you can find a pair of affordable jeans that aren’t stretchy at a great price. I prefer when they’re not stretchy because if they’re high-waisted, they help flatten my little belly. I love how thick and durable Levi’s jeans are too. They’re usually the pair that lasts longest for me.
If you have a little lower pooch, I’ve heard that buying low-waisted jeans can help conceal it. I have a pair and vouch that it does help with camouflaging the pooch. The only thing I don’t like is having to find a shirt long enough so that I’m not exposing any parts of my stomach.
Okay, okay, going back to my recent purchase of Levi’s. The ones I bought are the Levi’s 501 ’90s Straight Jeans. I’m not sure how they’ll fit yet, but I’m confident they’ll look nice. I bought two sizes, 29 and 30. I’ll report back.
I really think having a really great pair of jeans is a staple in any wardrobe. You can definitely dress jeans up or down.
In addition to jeans, linen pants are something I consider a staple as well. I never considered them before, but now that I’m older and more people are taking a liking to them, I think linen pants are a great investment piece for your wardrobe.
The fit I prefer for loose or linen pants is usually tighter around the hips and thighs, and then it flows out. You can check out some of my outfits on my blog post, Summer Outfits, by clicking here.
I have pictures of myself wearing some of my favorite flowy pants, and you can see how they fit me. For context, I’m 170lbs and 5’3″.
When creating the flatlays in this blog post, I also considered how I get hot pretty easily. I like to layer a lot of my outfits. This way, I can adjust accordingly.
I also noticed that because I get hot easily, I prefer t-shirts that are on the thinner side. T-shirts are currently a huge part of my style! AND denim jackets! Can’t forget about my love for a good jean jacket (does anyone call them that anymore?).
And I don’t mean just any regular denim jackets. Included are examples of the style of denim jackets I’m into right now in some of the flatlays provided. I have a couple of denim jackets in similar styles, including one that has a faux sherpa lining. I like layering a zip-up hoodie underneath.
Because I like layering my outfits, I lean more towards simpler and more basic pieces, like thin t-shirts, plain linen pants, jeans, and denim jackets. I usually leave print and color for my accessories, like purses and shoes.
I recently purchased the pair of lavender flats I showcase in some of the flatlays. My daughter and I saw someone wearing them in New York. We fell in love at first sight.

Creating outfits for this blog post, I remembered them all over again. When I went to look for them, I found a site that offered the shoes at 50% off! I bought the last pair in my size.
My suggestion would be to buy basic pieces and have fun with your accessories! You can even get away with a fun jacket! I have a few fun jackets I like dressing up my basic outfits with. I love an injection of color or print.
For prints, I usually gravitate towards animal print and bandana paisley patterns. I’m not too big on floral. Stripes and dots don’t bother me. I think they can be fun too.
When it comes to animal print, though, I am pretty picky as some can look really cheap. It’s considered a gaudy print as it is to some. I want to make sure there’s some sophistication to it.
As for accessories, like jewelry, I used to love mixing metals. Now, I find myself leaning more towards sterling silver pieces, which I’ve also included in some of the flatlays.
Something I’d like to add to my collection of basics is a nice cardigan. I used to have a really nice one, but lost it at a friend’s house. Since then, I haven’t been able to find one that’s a reasonable price and good quality.
This is something I may get from Poshmark. If you’d like to read about my top tips on how to buy on Poshmark, click here to check out my blog post.
Some of my most loved cashmere and silk pieces have been from purchases from Poshmark. A few years ago, I discovered that I love short-sleeve cashmere and silk tops.
In Poshmark’s search bar, I entered “cashmere short-sleeve tops.” I was able to find a couple of pieces for great prices that I purchased and still love til this day. To be more specific, you can also filter based on color.
Some of the pieces I used in the images may be a great start to search on Poshmark. For example, you can search for satin Mary Jane flats or a stand collar denim jacket. You can further filter by color and size.
When I don’t know how to describe what I want, I’ll use an inspiration item by clicking on the link and looking for the style name or description. That’s how I came up with the specific style of denim jacket.
If you don’t want to go through Poshmark, you can also check some of my picks below in the widget I created for you.
I hope this blog post inspires you with your casual dinner outfits, especially the images. Leave a comment. Your feedback is greatly appreciated!
