I would love to be the type of person who could schedule facials and treatments consistently. However, I am not. Financially, it’s not realistic for me nor do I have enough time to do so.
I do, however, love to take care of my skin and like to find ways where I can DIY it. Next month, I turn 46 and I’ve noticed a lot of changes to my skin from elasticity to texture, and clarity.
If you are anything like me, where you have skin changes due to age, and you have sensitive combination skin leaning towards dry, here I list my two best facial devices that have worked for me, and hopefully for you!
This post is all about my top two best facial devices for aging skin.
Starting with one of the best facial devices I own, it would be PMD’s Microderm Classic. I love love love this device! I’ve had this thing since 2016. Maybe even longer but the earliest receipt I could find was for one back in 2016.
Here’s why I consider this to be one of the best facial devices out there: for one, it’s like having a mini professional microdermabrasion facial at home. It helps with skin texture, dark spots, and dry patches. When I use this device consistently, my skin is so nice and supple. It makes your skin so smooth and soft.
I am prone to dark spots. I’m naturally tan and any big or small acne will leave its mark on me whether I touch it or not. This helps with fading dark spots. The key is to use this facial device consistently. I used to use it once a week for about 4 months to get clear skin. You might not need to use it for that long but if you are prone to dark spots, have large pores, and texture, this should be able to help you towards clearer and smoother skin. Now, I only use it for maintenance. I probably should start using it weekly again to help with new acne scars that have surfaced.
The other benefit about this facial device is that it helps with absorbing your skin care products after a treatment. I definitely notice when I use this facial device, my skin glows so beautifully the next day. I can tell my skin has absorbed all of my skincare products because my skin feels like it took a nice and needed drink of water and it definitely “reflects” that.
It’s also supposed to help with minimizing your pores. I do see a difference in the size of my pores right treatment. But I also have big pores, so after a couple of days, they start to show up prominently again.
The only thing you would need to spend money on after purchasing this facial device are replacement discs for different skin types. I have purchased all the different types available but notice I mainly reach for the sensitive discs. I’ve mentioned before in other blogs that I have sensitive combination skin that is more on the drier side. As much as I love this facial device, I do need to keep in mind, that I don’t want anything too harsh on my skin. You’re supposed to wait a week in between each treatment. This device can be pretty abrasive and your skin needs time to heal in between each session.
It also helps with removing dead skin cells which help exfoliate your skin. I just read on their site that it also helps promote collagen. No wonder why my skin always feels so supple and moisturized. I don’t experience any pain when using this device. The key is to keep it moving on your face and not stay in one area for too long. You don’t want to damage your skin which can happen if you’re not consistently moving it. Also, make sure you move all your hair out the way. It feels weird when a hair gets stuck underneath the disc and you’re trying to treat your skin.
It is a little pricey. But as I mentioned earlier, I had mine since 2016. It’s definitely worth the investment for me. I’ve only had to purchase replacement discs which I buy when there’s a discount. I usually switch out to a new disc after the 4th or 5th use. When you purchase a replacement disc each pack comes with four facial discs, two body discs, and a circular filter. After each use, I clean my filter and let it air dry so I don’t have to purchase more.
The other best facial devices that I love is the NuFace Trinity+. This facial device is really expensive, and I was lucky enough that my daughter gifted it to me. Honestly, she gifted it to me at the most perfect time because I was already doing my research on devices like this one. Except, I was going to opt for a cheaper version. I really didn’t want to purchase just anything and waste money and space. However, if you can save up and purchase this one, I would say do that instead. The cheaper versions, I was hesitant to drop a hundred dollars on because the reviews weren’t that great. I would say this is worth the investment.
Apparently, when you first use this facial device, you need to use it daily for at least a month (not sure on exact time frame). I did my best to follow this, skipping a couple days here and there. Now, I just do it about every 2 weeks. I haven’t used the other attachments included but have used the main device and attachment.
I am starting to notice jowls and a sagging neck. Hence, why I started looking into these types of facial devices. My grandma had prominent jowls, and I always thought they were cute on her. However, for myself, I’m not ready. I’m only 46.
Using this facial device in the beginning, I didn’t really notice anything. But when I stopped using it consistently, I did notice my jowls and neck sag slowly coming back. When I saw that happen, I quickly reached for my NuFace Trinity. After one treatment, I noticed my face and neck started to tighten up again which this time I thought was a huge difference.
The last time I used it was the night before Thanksgiving. As I’m writing this blog now, I notice I could use another treatment today. I really think this facial device helps with sagging skin. It isn’t the most noticeable difference at first. But when you stop using it, you do notice a change in the plumpness and tightness of your skin. That’s the best way that I can describe it which is you may not notice any skin difference while you’re using this device but you will notice it when you stop.
Before I started using my NuFace, I had to download their app. In their app, there are several types of treatments you can select depending on your needs. There’s also a calendar to keep track of your treatments and progress. I don’t use the calendar but see how it can be helpful. When you start a treatment, you can opt to take progress pictures or not. In the beginning, I took progress pictures but after awhile, I found it annoying to consistently hold my phone for a photo opt when I had gel on my hands. You do need to use their gel in order to use their facial device. Also, I was logged out of the app, and it didn’t save any of my pictures that I did take in the beginning.
I don’t really feel anything when I’m using the device on my skin. I only feel something when I use it on my forehead. It’s more of a weird sensation than that of a painful one. It feels like my hair got caught under the device and its lightly moving it around my forehead.
The annoying thing I find with this device is that you have to consistently turn it off and on (if you’re following the treatment instructions via the app) to apply the gel on certain areas of your face and neck. You should apply the gel one area at a time because you don’t want it to dry out when you finally reach that destination to start treatment. When I turn the facial device back on, it doesn’t go to the last setting you used. I consistently have to remember to change the setting when I start my treatment and everything is timed. I also wish there was a volume setting on the device. When it beeps to let you know when to change area, it is so faint, I sometimes don’t hear it.
Overall, I really like this facial device because I feel like it does what it needs to do as far as results for my skin. Keep in mind, the product you will need to repurchase is the gel. There are other skincare products they suggest to use for different treatments as well. I have not purchased nor used them yet. Like I mentioned before, this is an investment, and they do have more affordable versions out there. However, those still range for about $100. I would save until I could afford a NuFace device because it really does do what it claims to do regarding skin needs. Yes, again, this device too is worth the investment for me.
Hope you enjoyed this post and that it provided you with helpful information. Thanks for reading!
